Just a sampling of the type of accolades Dr. Mark
receives from his patients:

“Since Dr. Mark Eisen has become our family physician we have had superior results. Without any knowledge of Anthroposophical Medicine, I've been amazed at how it has alleviated  several symptoms of both acute and chronic health conditions.  He spends 30-60 minutes per visit and offers us an individualized treatment approach with both traditional and anthroposophical medicine.
I always opt for the anthroposophical approach, since I have been through my share of doctors that spend 5 minutes with you, hand you a drug prescription, and tell you to return if it doesn’t work. He offers us a safe, non-invasive, drug-free approach for all of our ailments. So far, in every instance I have achieved results that western medicine alone could not make happen.  In addition, the office is quiet and the staff is personable and friendly.”

"During the late 1990’s, I was diagnosed with Serpiginous Choroiditis, a rare eye disease that usually leads to substantial central vision loss.  The disease is episodic and can recur at any time. In my case this was occurring monthly with scar tissue building up inside the eye.  Traditional medicine still offers no cure. Normal treatment involves immune suppression which entails other health risks.

Dr. Eisen prescribed a series of Anthroposophical homeopathic medications and injections to reduce the frequency of the disease’s episodic onsets.  I was frankly elated when the frequent episodic onsets stopped.  Also no side effects were evident. Today (ten years later) I am able to treat any infrequent episodic flair-ups of the disease with one of Dr. Eisen’s remedies, which have previously stopped an episodic onset immediately.  Without these remedies I might be blind today. Thank you Dr. Eisen!"

“I first saw Mark Eisen, M.D. (who we fondly came to know as Dr. Mark) when my now 12 year old daughter was approximately 18 months old. Despite being solely breast fed for six months, my daughter had struggled with innumerable ear infections and had “graduated” from the standard regime of antibiotics to the “gold standard” antibiotic (or the “big guns” as I like to call them).  I was very concerned about the effects of strong antibiotics on her very small body.  My father, a very traditional urologist trained at Duke School of Medicine, had always drummed into me that medications are not to be taken lightly as they always have consequences.  (And this was long before the unforeseen consequences of antibiotics were well documented).  As I became increasingly distraught about my daughter’s ear infections, a dear friend told me that if I was ever interested in pursuing alternative medicine, my daughter’s ear infections would be a good place to start.  I told her I would try anything but was unwilling to take my daughter to anyone who was not a traditionally trained medical doctor with a valid medical license.  She recommended Dr. Mark Eisen.
From that first appointment for my daughter through a life-threatening illness of my own, I have seen Dr. Mark more times than I care to count.  I am always thankful to have been directed to him and know that my life (and that of my family) literally has many times depended upon his knowledge, wisdom and innate understanding of health and human beings.  I do not say this lightly and want to explain why I would recommend Dr. Eisen for any health related issue one might encounter.
I very much embrace the alternative paths that we have often taken with Dr. Eisen’s guidance.  However, perhaps because of growing up in a medical family as well as having a Ph.D. myself, I have felt it to be important that my physician understands “both worlds,” that of traditional Western medicine as well as alternative medical paradigms.  Dr. Eisen is unique in my experience in this way.  With every patient encounter he is able to bridge what are, at times, huge gulfs between Western medicine and alternative treatments.  As with my own illness, he is able to support traditional medical treatments with the remedies and recommendations he prescribes.  Probably most important to me is that Dr. Eisen knows that health and well-being are about so much more than what happens to the physical body.  Dr. Eisen has a remarkable understanding of the ways in which the non-physical —regardless of how you may see those other aspects of ourselves—dramatically affect our physical being.  Dr. Eisen’s ability to “see within” and “see deeply” as he talks to me about current ailments never ceases to amaze me.  After being in his care for the past 10+ years, every visit I make to a traditional medical doctor seems incomplete and superficial in many ways.  After a visit to Dr. Eisen, I always feel that I have been educated about myself as a human being as well as about what is happening to my physical body.  I walk away feeling respected, supported and known which is indeed a miracle in the world of medicine today.
Oh yes, and after beginning treatment with Dr. Mark, my daughter never again took antibiotics for an ear infection (or anything else).  She is now a tremendously strong, integrated, grounded and healthy preteen whose health I totally entrust to Dr. Mark.  I wish my own childhood health had been so well-supported.  Medical care with Dr. Mark is a gift I give my daughter so that her health and well-being are strengthened and enhanced.
Furthermore, her experience with Dr. Mark enables her to participate fully and confidently in her own health and self-care.  That is a gift we all should be given.  Thank you Dr. Mark!!”

“My family and I have been patients of Dr. Mark Eisen for thirteen years.  Within a month of moving to the area my then 5 year old daughter contracted pneumonia with a significant fever.  Dr. Eisen gave us homeopathic and herbal medications, prescribed mustard wraps and sent a nurse to our home to demonstrate how to do them. He phoned us at least three times a day to see how she was doing.  Our new neighbors thought we were crazy, but I was confident that, if need be, Dr. Eisen would start antibiotics or take whatever steps necessary to see us through the illness safely. As it turned out, within a few days the pneumonia was almost completely gone.  I was invited to listen to her lungs when she was first diagnosed – and then again on the fourth day when barely a trace of illness remained.  He is the only doctor we’ve known who actively educated us as we went through the illness. He demonstrated the findings of her pneumonia and made it clear why an X-ray was not needed at the time of diagnosis.
Dr. Eisen has a huge range of healing tools at his disposal: Western medicine (MD from Michigan, Family Practice Residency at Duke); Anthroposophical medicine (trained during and after medical school in the US and Germany), homeopathy, art, music, and an remarkable ability to use what I call intuition or insight to get to the heart of what his patient needs.
His approach is unusual.  He asks unexpected questions (do you dream in color or black and white?) and his visits are long.  How else can a doctor truly uncover what needs attention?
There are definitely times when Western medicine and approaches are needed, but not always.  I trust Dr. Eisen to discern the difference.
But be prepared;  this special physician’s approach  may fly in the face of many of your preconceived ideas of what a doctor should look like, act like and talk like...thankfully!”

The Biographical Intervention
"One of the prerequisites for good health is pondering good health.  A pondering occurred several months ago as I celebrated a birthday and began a new seven year cycle.
As a member of the health profession I know all too well that we pass most of our time outside the realm of actually doing something about the state of our minds and bodies. Healthy diet and exercise information are abundant, so much so that you can’t see the forest for the trees. Living with an accelerated sense of time often creates a neglect of our emotional and spiritual needs. I turned in the forest to one among us who has many possible solutions to our tangled lives, but who is often not sought until the eleventh hour. He is a sturdy oak with strong limbs and with a few leaves missing from his crown. I am grateful for Dr. Mark who, during an appointment, gifted me with his insight regarding my biography and offered remedies much needed for my preventative care regimen. I have calculated that money spent on preventative care is just a fraction of the cost incurred for illness or disease management."

"My father was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis during the year 2000.  He was 83 years old at the time.  Traditional treatment methods to manage the progression of this incurable disease began to fail by the following year. At that point Dr. Eisen told me that my father’s Myelofibrosis could still be effectively treated even at his advanced age. Dr. Eisen prescribed Anthroposophical and homeopathic injections, drops, and ointments which yielded truly remarkable results right away.

It seemed like a miracle had taken place when blood transfusions, which had become necessary every two weeks, quickly stretched out to seven weeks between treatments!  My father’s regular doctor was perplexed by the dramatic improvement in his health. Thanks to Dr. Eisen, my father experienced a happier and much improved, near-normal, quality of life which continued for the next two years. Eventually my father began succumbing to other unrelated old-age disorders. I am very grateful to Dr. Eisen."

"When I moved to North Carolina in 1985, one of the attractions of the area was the fact there was a practicing Anthroposophical medical doctor in the community.  I have not regretted that decision.  The remedies have been more effective than allopathic drugs for my son’s ear infections and our families various ailments over the years. When appropriate, we have used allopathic drugs along with remedies to boost our constitutions to be truly healthy.  Having a doctor who earnestly strives for the most effective treatment to strengthen a body, soul and spirit during an illness has been a blessing. Dr. Eisen listens to what the problem is, carefully explains the ways to treat it, and includes me in the decision of how to best meet my individual medical needs. This is in stark contrast to many other doctors who treat the symptoms of any illness with the same thing that has worked on the majority of everyone else, is the easiest way to restore an illusion of wellness, and without regard to side effects. My understanding of health and well being has increased over the years due to Dr. Eisen’s patient teaching and care."

"My regular eye doctor discovered wet macular degeneration in my eyes several years ago.  He performed laser treatments, but central vision was mostly lost in my left eye. Then I met with Dr. Eisen who prescribed Anthroposophic homeopathic medications that improved my condition noticeably.  Subsequent eye examinations showed my macular degeneration improving from wet to dry. This improvement alone is remarkable.

As noted during my last eye examination (summer 2008), my vision has “changed for the better” in the right eye and has not worsened in the left eye.  Before Dr. Eisen’s Anthroposophic remedy, my vision was declining in both eyes. Today I am very thankful to be able to see, read, and continue with my translation work."

"Over 15 years ago, I was looking for a doctor and my sister-in-law had a guide to homeopathic doctors and was looking up doctors for me. I asked her to look up Dr. Mark Eisen as I'd seen his ad. She said, "Oh, go see him, he's got the most stars." I went to see him and have been so glad. I have been grateful for his  knowledge and experience and impressed with the range of problems he can address. He takes time to look at the whole picture of what is happening and educates me so that I can also care for myself and my family."

"Where in the ravaged world of “managed” care and less-than-ten-minute primary care office visits, are you likely to find yourself browsing books by Rudolf Steiner or another of the wide-ranging selection of books on health, religions, or philosophy lining a cozy waiting room? You are surrounded by wonderful health care products and home remedies in the small Jubilee store. Your visit with the doctor lasts for half an hour or more, and not just about physical symptoms (I’ve had a fever for three days, etc….) but perhaps about a meditation for the soul, the body’s energy levels, the difference between homeopathy and anthroposophy and the bases of holistic medicine?

A visit to “Dr Mark”, (who has been my physician for roughly ten years), is a remarkably different experience from the usual prescription-oriented, next-patient-please office visit; It is more like a session with a trusted and very knowledgeable friend. He takes the time needed to listen and discover what might be going on, not just in one organ system or body part but in the whole body, mind, and spirit. We are engaged in a collaborative dialogue, a dialogue which assumes that both of us are willing and able to explore at a deeper level the underlying patterns and relationships between mind, body and spirit which influence one’s state of health. Dr Mark is able to preserve that rare balance between allopathic and holistic approaches, something I appreciate both as a patient and as a researcher with many years’ experience in public health. I believe that both of these approaches can be used effectively under different circumstances and with different people. We may decide on a standard antibiotic and an anthroposophical herbal or homeopathic treatment, along with some suggested meditations, for example, and if I don’t agree with a suggested line of approach, we can discuss other possibilities without difficulty.

In my experience, an intelligent partnership with a deeply caring, careful, and conscientious family physician is an indispensable aid to the health of one’s mind, body and soul – something that I have found desperately wanting in the woefully inadequate industrialized and commercialized medical model of “healthcare” we’ve come to endure. There are too few doctors following the kind of vision of care that Dr. Mark has pioneered in the Triangle, and I’m very grateful for being one of his patients."

"In 1991 at age 60, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer which had spread to the seminal vesicles.  After a radical prostatectomy followed by radiation, my PSA continued to rise exponentially.  I started androgen ablation therapy and Dr. Eisen prescribed injections of Iscador three times/week.  I have continued the Iscador therapy for the past 17 years and although my PSA is again rising, there are no detectable metastases and I am continuing to combine Anthroposophical medical treatments with conventional anticancer therapies.

Additionally, at age 70, I began to experience back pain from osteoarthritic spurs on my spine.  Dr. Eisen prescribed Anthroposophically prepared injections of Formica which have dissolved the arthritic spurs and almost completely eliminated the back pain, allowing me to continue a normally active life.

"We live about 30 minutes from Doctor Mark, and have a traditional pediatric clinic across the street from us.  I appreciate the clinic, and the doctors are friendly enough, but their bag of tricks is limited to a prescription pad of medicines with side effects and limitations.

Doctor Mark has helped my daughters, my husband, and I get through ailments in a positive way.  It is positive because he has helped me to see when our system is challenged, our body will become stronger in the long run if we work with our body and support it through this challenge, rather than tearing it down with chemicals. His bag of tricks is never ending with remedies that support our systems, safely, and no side effects.

My youngest had pneumonia a few years ago, and with the remedies he prescribed, the mustard wraps, and his daily guidance, she healed quickly without any antibiotics. My oldest daughter had the flu with a high fever and when she woke up in the middle of the night, hallucinating, scaring me, I called him immediately.  He calmly told me what remedy to take for her AND myself, and it worked dramatically and quickly.

My children used to hate going to the doctor. That changed when we starting seeing Mark.  He has an excellent rapport with the kids, making them feel so comfortable in the office that it is difficult to get them to leave. He also teaches them and has them involved in helping themselves, which is a wonderful habit for life."

In 2004, I was seriously injured in an out-of-state accident. Despite a severely broken shoulder, I was able to drive my car home. Upon arrival, I simply collapsed in my wife’s arms. Despite the late hour, she called Dr. Mark. Through quick thinking, he was able to recognize my immediate need for care of the shocked condition that got me home as well as treatment of the injury itself.
That was the beginning of what came to be a long road to recovery.
I saw Dr. Mark at his office the following morning. He thoroughly examined me while patiently listening to my complaints and making recommendations for my comfort. We had a long conversation and I thought he had asked some questions of me that were insignificant. Well, over the course of the next few months, Dr. Mark revisited each of those questions, checking in with me and helping me realize their importance to my well being. During my convalescence, both the orthopedic surgeon and physical therapist I was seeing were continually amazed at my speedy recovery from such a severe malady. I fully believe that Dr. Mark’s care, concern, and treatment were vital to me overcoming the severity of my injuries, keeping my sense of well being, and regaining the full use of my body that the other medical providers I was seeing said was not possible.
